Election 2008
What happened with this election? Did the American people vote to get a qualified person to run this country or was it just to get the Republicans out of office?
I never really did enjoy the re-election campaigns; there is not much of a challenge.
Let’s face it, if the current president has done well in the previous four years and we don’t have an opponent worthwhile voting for, then it’s a given. However, the election campaign happens to be much more interesting because we have no choice but to go with someone new. Now, do we vote to elect a Democrat, Republican, Independent, black, white, male, female, or to get a qualified person to run this great country of ours?
Halfway through the primaries of this last election many of the Republican candidates bailed out of the race. Maybe, they felt they didn’t have a chance, or maybe no one wanted to run the country because of the great mess we’re in. Let the Democrats clean up this mess. So they left McCain as the underdog. After all it would look weak if they all bailed out.
Then for awhile we witnessed two candidates from the same party fight like two bullies in a schoolyard, soon when one of them backed off they later became best friends. WHAT?
Let’s quickly re-cap what’s happened in the last 40 somewhat years or at least what I can remember about our Presidency.
- Soon after Kennedy was assassinated Lyndon B. Johnson (D) took over office escalating the Vietnam War. He became very unpopular for picking up his puppy by the ears. The people did not like that.
- Richard Nixon (R) took over the office and won a second term by a landslide. Soon to be impeached because of the Watergate scandal. Gerald Ford took over the office from Vice-Presidency and pardoned Nixon. Bad move for the Republicans, the people didn’t like that.
- Jimmy Carter (D) for four years, mortgage interest rates soared to 21%, hostages in Iran. America looked weak, we need someone strong, the people demanded.
- Ronald Reagan (R) for two terms, former movie star, rebuilds America and brings back admiration and respect in the eyes of the world. As a result of that, the Republicans have another shot at the office. George Bush, former Vice-President drives the country into a recession. Rumors had it as a result of the Reagan Administration. Bad move, twelve years of Republicans in the office, the people demand change.
- Bill Clinton (D), eight years in office and toward the end he gets caught up in a sex scandal in the oval office, the people did not like that.
- A new Millennium the year 2000, George W. Bush (R), son of former president George Bush runs against Vice President Gore and wins by a very narrow margin. Gore blames Clinton for losing the election because of Clinton’s sexual relations in the Oval office. After two terms, for many, George Bush becomes the most hated man in America, if not the world. The people demand change.
- ELECTION “2008” President-elect Barack Obama (D) will deliver change.
Do we have a pattern here, D, R, D, R, D, R, and now D again? When one party goes astray the other takes over.
Is it true Mr. Obama will you deliver change? Will you fix the worst economy since the Great Depression? Will you stop these two endless wars? Will you bring back admiration and respect from the rest of the world? Will you catch Osama Bin Laden? It’s quite a big job for one guy, a lot riding on your shoulders.
Just a word of advice from a citizen and member of the people, after you’re done changing this country and saving the world:
Just keep this in mind, whenever you get the urge and no matter how strong it is,
“DON’T PICK UP THAT NEW PUPPY BY THE EARS!”
